Prospero

This is a picture of Prospero showing is capibilities and his "slave" in the background. I believe this also could show an angle in the background resembling the people who think he is dead or think the others have died in the shipwreck.

This shows the storm Prospero set to sea.

This picture shows the relationship between Prospero and Miranda because she is kind of under his "wing". She looks frightened and as if she needs protection and that is what Prospero does the entire play. Protects Miranda from any type of harm he can

1. Proserpo was the duke of Milan and his duties were to be able to keep everything in line with the army and with national forces. Dukes were moved up in the military forces. This is unique to this play because Prospero got kicked out of his country, and sent to an island, which was of no sort of civilization or military forces.

2. Food for Dukes and his family: The duke and his family were required to get the best of the best in everything. In the 1600's the duke was given the best of the foods and silverwear. The royalty would send people out to hunt or cature their food.

3. "Prospero" means to be sucessful. This name fits his character because he is always looking for sucess; with himself and his daughter.

4. A duke usually is in charge of areas of land. "The duchy earns an income through farming, real estate rentals and other businesses." The duke also may do some types of political work. As Prospero was slone on this entire island it shows how he can keep his land together and earn his dukedom.

5. The duke would wear an outfit that consisted of a coat, waistcoat, and britches. These may have been things Prospero was deprived of because he was stranded on the island.

6. The transportation was usually a horse. The quenn was to step into the carriage before the man and the men were to sit closest to the horses, as a respect trend for the ladies. Otherwise, the Duke's would use ships to get across to an island.

7. Prospero treated Caliban as some type of slave, and slavery was a very common thing back in the 1600's. The reason slaves never backed down is because they were afraid of the server consequences.

8. Prospero is said to have many "Supernatural" powers and during this time frame witchcraft was VERY popular. At this point it was not exactly looked down on but it wasn't a good thing either.

9. According to dictionary.com, the word "tempest" means "a violent windstorm, esp. one with rain, hail, or snow". This is ironic because that is exactly what Prospero did to the island, and that is the whole point of the play. The name of the play is the "Tempest" due to this particluar reason.

10. Prospero makes his daughter, Miranda, his entire world because that is all he has left (familywise). This shows a unique significance because back then their daughters were extremely important and he shows this in every aspect. He wants the best for Miranda, and He keeps Ferdiand at his fingertips at all times because he does not want his daughter to feel any agony whatsoever.

http://vimeo.com/1218284 <--- music site.
This music site should be used with Prospero because the music is bold, yet it starts out gentle. Prospero is bold the entire way through the play and he starts out gentle by telling his daughter his and Alonso's differences. He is extremely bold at the end of the play when he get's the "revenge" he has been wishing for.

Prospero Act One:
I need to get some type of revenge on my brother for what he has done to me and my personal dukedom. I am going to send a storm to sea therefore, all the ships members will be coasted to this island. I am doing this so Miranda can have a fair chance at life and I can regain my dukedom. I hope Miranda will understand after I tell her my reasoning. I have been stranded on this island with my daughter for 12 years and I needed to tell her the reasons behind it. I have told her how much her uncle and I differ from one another. She was not expecting this, but she has every right to know.
Act Two:
As everyone arrives to this island I can attempt to get in contact with Alonso and ask him his purposes for what he has done to me. The fact of him taking my dukedom away gets under my skin but it does not bother me as much as the fact that Miranda never got a chance to live in the world and get to see others. Miranda is my world, the only thing I have left. The day I give her away will be to a well-sophisticated, charming, and able to handle anything put towards him man. Ariel is going to put Gonzalo and Antoino to sleep to observe the reactions of Gonzalo and Caliban
Act Three:
My daughter is falling in love with a gentleman, Ferdinand. I can say I am thrill about this, but I cannot let this boy, soon to be man, know that I think he may have capabilities to take my daughters hand. Of course, I will definitely test him to no limit because my daughters love can only be won by the best man there is. “nothing could make me happier” than to see her with Ferdinand.
Act Four:
The trouble I have given Ferdinand has finally paid off and I told him how he has permission to take my daughters hand away from mine. I have given her my time as she has given me hers, but now its time for her to go on with her life with Ferdinand. I have ordered that Ariel put all people in a spell so I can get them where I want them and tell them exactly what I know and think of them.
Act Five:
I will now get revenge on those I have been dying to. Alonso, Antonio, and Caliban will now get the price they paid. Everything I have been doing is paying off in my hands. My spells I have made my salve, Ariel, put upon people are working out to the T. I have told Anotino his sins and he has came forth with apology as did Caliban. However, Alonso did not say one word when I confronted him. All Ariel has to do is get me and the men, and Miranda home safely. For all he has done he deserves his freedom.
